Description

The Lady Amherst’s Pheasant comes from South central and Western China and is another easy to keep and extremely hardy breed, often preferring to roost out in the aviary at night. The males have a scarlet crest, bright green and blue wings which blend into a whitish grey breast, and a beautiful long grey tail heavily barred with chestnut under coverts. The females are dull brown with black markings very similar to the golden females, The poults look like females in their first year, developing their full plumage in their second year. Ornamental Pheasants need to be kept in a small Aviary or something similar so they don’t fly away, The males can be kept single as they tend to roam alone in the wild, but it is preferred to keep them in pairs or trios. They can be fed and do well on 50 percent layers or breeders pellets and 50 percent mixed corn, and live in a aviary at the bottom of the garden not making any more noise than a Parrot.
